7th grade
French course description
Welcome to 7th grade French! This class meets every day for the entire year. In this class you will do various activities that will help build your proficiency in French. By the end of the year, you should be able to perform interpretative, interpersonal, and presentational tasks at the NOVICE MID level on the ACTFL Proficiency Guideline. (More information regarding the ACTFL proficiency guideline will be provided in the coming weeks). You will also explore the geography and cultural practices of some French speaking countries.
Materials- We will not be following a specific textbook, but rather handouts and materials will be given out from many different resources. Authentic materials, such as the French children’s magazines “Images DOC” and “Astrapi”, as well as audio clips, video clips, and books will also be used. In addition, we will be using many digital resources, such as our classroom blog (www.madamecesario.blogspot.com), Quizlet, (https://quizlet.com/class/3190275/) and YouTube (http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCp4PCHYykrmr-2AUqazRzfw).
Supplies- You will need a notebook and folder or a section in a binder, as well as
pens, pencils, a USB drive and a composition notebook.
Homework- Homework will be assigned regularly. If homework is not completed and handed in
on the day it is due, you will receive a zero for the assignment. The only
time you will be allowed to make up homework is when you are absent. If you are
absent, it is your responsibility to get the assignment and turn it in the
following day. Homework counts for 15%
of your total grade.
Quizzes, tests, and
projects- Tests and
projects are usually assigned near the end of a unit. They account for 25% of your total grade. Quizzes are assigned regularly and account for 35% of your total grade.
Class participation- It is expected and necessary for you
to participate actively in class. You will need to be prepared for class, have
all the required materials, use the target language (French), follow
instructions, be attentive, and cooperate while working in groups. Class
participation will be assessed in various ways every week and counts for 25% of your total grade.
A note on translators- Translators are not
considered an appropriate resource in this course. Any work completed with a translator will not be accepted. We will
talk in class about acceptable resources that may be used to complete
assignments.
